Director of Tourism Marketing

Job Title: Tourism Marketing Director
Reports To: Trinity County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors


The Trinity County Chamber of Commerce, in Northern California, is looking for a Tourism Marketing Director. This position will be responsible for key areas such as marketing Trinity County as a tourism destination, visitor management, and the development of tourism campaigns, services, and facilities. The job also includes some Chamber of Commerce housekeeping duties. The ideal candidate should have a background in a related field with 3-5 years in marketing, management, art direction or ad agency experience preferred. Candidate should be passionate about Trinity County, with a strong understanding of what Trinity County offers and what works here while also having a broader, perhaps well-traveled, world view to understand what works well in other cities/places. The position is also responsible for oversight of outreach to new businesses, regional business development, and advocacy for member businesses.

Skills include the dedication to developing a marketing strategy for our largely unknown region, the ability to work with a variety of people, being highly organized, have a clear vision, and the ability to lead others with that vision.

DIRECTOR OF TOURISM MARKETING

  • Work with agency or designers to create a comprehensive brand identity; including both strategy and assets that inspire tourism in Trinity County.
  • Assist in ideation, strategy, and implementation of marketing campaigns.
  • Hold the line on keeping a consistent brand across platforms.
  • Craft PR strategy with consistent messaging; write press releases and copy for tourism guides, advertising, and newsletters. Develop relationships with key media professionals. Maintain an effective press packet for responsive media engagement.
  • Develop regional relationships with partner organizations. Attend regional conferences to network and build relationships and represent Trinity County.
  • Create and/or edit native design files from designers. Prefer working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
  • Manage e-tourism platforms, including multiple websites, and construct business databases. Knowledge of social media management software.
  • Manage and coordinate tourism services publicity via a range of social media platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, X(Twitter), TikTok, and Facebook
  • Use analytic and metric systems tracking ROI with the ability to make key marketing strategy adjustments and inferences based off data.
  • Undertake market research with members of the public, visitors or potential visitors.
  • Manages aspects of the TCCoC, including purchasing, budget development, and preparation of reports required by governing bodies. Researches and works to secure grant funding.
  • Manage both volunteer and paid support staff.
  • Develops, recommends, and upon approval, operates within an annual budget.
  • Works out of the Trinity County Visitor Center in Weaverville. Must have reliable transportation for both in and out of county travel.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with appropriate public agencies, community leaders, and local lodging, restaurant, and other tourism related organizations.

REQUIRED SKILLS: 
Creativity, innovation, self-motivation, organization, and excellent interpersonal skills.

 

  • Destination marketing experience; including assessing target markets, creating branding, and customizing marketing campaigns.
  • Commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial approach to work
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Constant Contact, GSuite, HTML, WordPress, and other website platforms (or equivalent applications) as well as graphics software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and social media management platforms.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must also be able to work with people and present information professionally.
  • Strong technical writing skills required for grant writing and tracking, preparation of Board packets, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Creative writing skills for content on promotional materials, newsletters, press releases, etc.
  • The ability to drive to all areas of Trinity County, including your own vehicle and a valid driver’s license.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA in Business, Marketing, or Communications (preferred)
  • Min 3-5 years related experience.
  • Residency in Trinity County or be willing to commute on a regular basis, this is not a telecommuting position.
